Providenciales, TCI, January 31, 2017Residents are expressing fury over the latest interception of Haitian sloops, where some 178 migrants were brought in by Marine Police.   Some of the comments on social media which this situation is attracting are extremely harsh and expose the ‘fed-upness’ of natives who feel this burden is increasingly growing to an unbearable level.

The UK has promised a security needs assessment in the immediate future, but while the Governor was revealing that move… two more sloops were en route to Provo.   Magnetic Media is told that the coastal radar picked them up, and within hours of each other, the vessels were brought into South Dock late Sunday and very early on Monday.

The Border Control Minister is speaking too, reminding the public that there is action being taken to get to the bottom of this crime of these human smuggling operations.   Minister Sean Astwood also reminded that those found to be harbouring illegals face jail time and/or a fine of $20,000.  Police, like Border Control, is asking for help and information.

The Haitian migrants, 144 males, 34 females and two juveniles are being housed at the South Dock road detention center which is not fit for the purpose of humane detention of migrants at all, much less nearly 200 people.
