Providenciales, TCI, July 29, 2016 – The court today sentenced Sherrington Morris to a total of 15 years for holding his ex-girlfriend and her baby hostage in Five Cays last December. The woman had called police to say Morris was trying to get into her home; but by the time the officers arrived on the scene, Morris had already broken in.
In addition to illegally entering the woman’s home, Morris, who had already been bound over the peace which means he was supposed to stay away from the woman; was said to be holding the woman’s 10 month old daughter as he threatened to burn the house down. Successful negotiations led by Police caused Morris to surrender himself and he was charged with common assault, for which he got two years; burglary for which he was sentenced to five years and eight years was delivered on the biggest charge: false imprisonment. Morris was found guilty on June 20th, 2016; today was sentencing at the Supreme Court. Sherrington Morris also has to pay a fine of $1,000 for breaching the bound over the peace order. The sentences will run concurrently; which means eight years at HMP.
