Providenciales, 20 Jul 2015 – Fourteen teen-aged girls and four teen-aged boys are better, they say, after spending one week in a lock in camp with the TCI Red Cross at the Marine Biology Center here in Provo.

The close out ceremony gave the youngsters and leaders a chance to reflect on the activities. It seems Olympic gold medal swimmer, Rowdy Gaines and Ben Stubenberg, a founder of Race for the Conch worked to dispel youngsters’ trepidation about swimming; swimming became one of the favorite activities and the 13-18 year olds also learned sea rescue procedures.

The group camped overnight in the Bight Park, they hiked in the Venetian Road area, they learned communication and life skills and many blossomed socially, opening up during the seven days away from their regular routines.

TCI Red Cross Director Lormeka Williams said financial constraints prevented travel to the annual Youth Camp abroad; the Red Cross board locally determined a local lock in was the way to go… based on the hugs and kisses and glowing comments from the youth participants, the decision was a good one.
