Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, 4th August 2025– Acting Governor Her Excellency Anya Williams, Premier Honourable Charles Washington Misick, Minister of Tourism Honourable Zhavago Jolly, Minister of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development and National Security Board Member Honourable Arlington Musgrove and Permanent Secretary of the National Security Secretariat Mr. Tito Lightbourne held a virtual meeting on 28th July 2025 with officials at the United States Embassy in Nassau, Bahamas.
The meeting was convened to provide an update on the recent shooting incident in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) and the responsive actions by national security agencies. During the session, TCI confirmed the government’s ongoing commitment to reducing crime across the territory, particularly serious and violent crimes. It was noted that the country, prior to this incident, recorded a 30% decrease in serious crimes compared to the same period last year, reflecting the effectiveness of strategic enforcement measures.
The recent incident took place in an industrial, non-tourism area, and the safety and security of both residents and visitors remain a top national priority.
The TCI delegation expressed appreciation to the United States for its continued collaboration, specifically thanking Operations Bahamas, Turks and Caicos (OPBAT), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other US partner agencies for their ongoing support in bolstering national security.
Government officials reiterated that the Turks and Caicos Islands remain safe and continue to welcome visitors from around the world.
