Acting Governor Her Excellency Anya Williams chaired the 17th Meeting of the Cabinet on Thursday, 24th July 2025 at the Office of the Premier on the island of Providenciales.
All members were present with the exception of the Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture Hon. Rachel Taylor and Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Shaun Malcolm.
At this meeting Cabinet:
- Approved the Draft Turks and Caicos Islander Status (Amendment) Bill 2025 for advancement to the Parliament
- Approved the Turks and Caicos Islands Contractors Policy with amendments as per discussions by the Cabinet
- Approved the establishment of a committee to inform the drafting of legislation to support the Contractors Policy as the guiding framework to regulate the construction sector
- Supported the formal establishment of a Construction Contractors Association that will be formally recognized by TCIG as an official representative body for the sector
- Approved an extension on the moratorium on new Non-TCI Islander licenses until December 31, 2025 while work progresses on the drafting and enactment of new legislation
- Approved new tiered licensing categories, value ranges, reserved categories and proposed licensing fees with amendments for local contractors subject to legislative amendments
- Approved new proposed bidding practices for contractors in the Turks and Caicos Islands subject to legislative amendments
- Approved the necessary regulatory amendments to Business Licencing Regulations in support of the new Contractors Policy
Granted approval for a 99-year lease over approximately 24.8 acres of parcel 60000/235 North West and Central, Providenciales for the development of a low-density villa resort, staff housing and other amenities to Northwest TCI Holdings.
