PROVIDENCIALES, TCI, June 3, 2025 — The Turks and Caicos Islands National Security Council (NSC) convened on Monday, June 2, 2025, amid ongoing concerns over crime, border security, and a recent surge in illegal migration from Haiti. The high-level session was co-chaired by Governor Her Excellency Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam and Premier Hon. Charles Washington Misick at the Office of the Premier in Providenciales.

In attendance were the Deputy Governor, Attorney General, Commissioner of Police (CoP), National Security Advisor (NSA), and heads of the Regiment, Border Force, and National Security Secretariat. The Deputy Premier and Minister for Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development sent apologies.

The NSA outlined developments to strengthen TCI’s national security framework, highlighting the Multi-Agency Coordinating Task Force and the recent completion of CARICOM IMPACS-led intelligence training across law enforcement. The NSC approved the creation of a vetting system for all agencies.

The CoP reported on the state of major crimes, investigations, and the support provided by regional officers from Jamaica and Barbados, whose presence has boosted RTCIPF’s operational capacity. The council agreed to review the national firearms policy.

The TCI Regiment shared updates on joint operations with police and border forces, including the acquisition of patrol vessels for maritime security. Meanwhile, the Director General of Border Force detailed joint efforts to intercept illegal entry attempts.

The NSC also discussed a spike in undocumented migration from crisis-hit Haiti. At least three incidents involving vessels packed with Haitian nationals fleeing gang violence and social collapse were recently intercepted in TCI waters.

The Governor, who heads national security in the British Overseas Territory, emphasized a unified approach to managing evolving threats.
