Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands – June 4, 2025: The Turks and Caicos Islands this week welcomed the arrival of the King’s Baton, a symbol of unity, peace and shared values, as part of the official lead-up to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The Baton, which began its historic 500-day journey from Buckingham Palace in March, arrived on June 3 for a week-long celebration across the Islands.
At a formal unveiling hosted by Her Excellency the Governor, Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, the uniquely designed TCI Baton was revealed—featuring artwork by A’navia Mantock, a 14-year-old student from HJ Robinson High School, and Garrett Campbell, an art teacher at Louise Garland Thomas High. Their winning designs highlight the Islands’ rich heritage and natural beauty, now permanently represented on this international stage. In her remarks, the Governor reflected on the deeper meaning of the Baton’s journey:
“The King’s Baton carries the values we hold dear: friendship, integrity and inclusion… Let this relay be a relay of hope, unity and purpose.”
From North and Middle Caicos to Providenciales, Salt Cay, South Caicos and Grand Turk, the Baton is being passed from hand to hand by youth, civic leaders, cultural groups and athletes. Highlights include school visits, a cultural showcase at the Children’s Park, a vibrant Junkanoo-led entrance at the Fish Fry, and a culminating Sport and Cultural Extravaganza at Governor’s Beach.
Ahead of the Baton’s journey, residents also participated in the Clean Ocean Plastic Initiative—a powerful curtain raiser promoting environmental stewardship.
As photos pour in, capturing community pride and colourful celebrations, TCI’s relay reminds all that the road to Glasgow 2026 begins with unity at home. Next stop: St. Vincent & the Grenadines on June 8.
