Turks and Caicos Islands Prepares to Host King’s Baton Relay

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands: The countdown is on as the Turks and Caicos Islands eagerly prepare to host the historic King’s Baton Relay, just weeks away from its arrival ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, scheduled for July 23, 2026.

The King’s Baton Relay began its journey on March 10, 2025, from Buckingham Palace, where it was officially launched by His Majesty King Charles III. This edition marks the longest Baton Relay in the history of the Commonwealth Games, spanning over 500 days and covering all 74 nations and territories of the Commonwealth.

The Caribbean marks the first leg of this global relay, with the Turks and Caicos Islands proudly hosting the Baton from June 3–8, 2025. The official unveiling will take place on June 3, where Her Excellency Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam will declare the Baton Relay officially launched in the TCI, setting off a countrywide tour across the islands.

The King’s Baton Relay is a powerful symbol of peace, unity, and shared purpose. It is a long-standing Commonwealth Games tradition that celebrates, connects, and energises communities across the globe. For the Turks and Caicos Islands, it presents a unique opportunity to showcase our rich culture, historic landmarks, stunning beaches, warm hospitality, and the diversity of our communities.

Relay Schedule Highlights:

Wednesday, June 4: The Baton travels to the twin islands of North and Middle Caicos, beginning at Bellfield Landing and visiting schools and historic sites, including the world-renowned Bambara Beach.                                                                                                                          Thursday, June 5: The Baton arrives in Providenciales, journeying through its vibrant communities. Every school child will be given the chance to see and perhaps hold the historic Baton. The day concludes with a showcase at the Children’s Park and a spectacular boat display along Grace Bay Beach. That evening, the Baton will be led into the famous Fish Fry by a Baton Bearer, accompanied by a dynamic cultural performance by We Funk Junkanoo Band.

Friday, June 6: The Relay continues to South Caicos, the fishing capital of TCI, engaging with schools and visiting key sites before proceeding to Salt Cay the island that time forgot for its own round of visits on June 7.

Saturday, June 7: The final leg takes place in the Nation’s Capital, Grand Turk, featuring school children, youth and uniformed groups, community leaders, and civic organizations carrying the Baton throughout the island. The relay culminates with a Sport and Cultural Extravaganza at Governor’s Beach, celebrating the unity and spirit of the TCI.

Curtain Raiser Event – May 31, 2025

As a lead-in to the King’s Baton Relay, the entire country is invited to participate in the Clean Ocean Plastic Initiative on May 31 at 6:00 a.m., with activities taking place simultaneously across all islands. This event highlights our shared commitment to environmental stewardship and community pride.

The President of the Commonwealth Games Association and his executive team invite all citizens of the Turks and Caicos Islands to join in this national celebration an inspiring initiative that brings our communities together under one banner of unity and purpose.
