Turks and Caicos, May 8, 2025 – A wave of concern swept across the Turks and Caicos Islands last week when it was announced that the beloved South Caicos Regatta would not take place in 2025. The unexpected news, issued by the now-replaced Regatta Festival Committee, left residents disheartened, fearing the loss of the country’s longest-standing cultural celebration.

However, Member of Parliament for South Caicos, Hon. Temard “Temell” Seymour, quickly intervened, reassuring the public that the show will go on. “I have heard your voices loud and clear,” said Seymour. “The regatta is more than just an annual celebration. It is a cornerstone of our identity and a tribute to our rich maritime heritage.”                                                                                                                                    Seymour announced that he had already begun working with stakeholders and government departments to ensure the necessary support and logistics are in place for the event. He also confirmed that the South Caicos Regatta 2025 is officially scheduled for May 23 and 24.                                                                                                                                                                                            As part of the renewed effort, a new Regatta Committee has been appointed to oversee the event’s planning and execution. The newly installed board includes McAllister Hanchell as President, Tikera Seymour as Vice President, Paige Clare as Secretary, Kristan Lightbourne as Treasurer, and William John as Public Relations Officer.

The transition was confirmed on Friday, May 2, with appreciation extended to the outgoing committee for their past service. The new leadership is expected to bring fresh energy and direction to the cherished tradition.

With excitement building once again, residents and visitors are encouraged to support the festivities, local vendors, and community pride. What started as a scare has turned into a surge of renewed momentum — ensuring the 2025 Regatta not only happens but thrives.
