Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands 24th April 2025 – The Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands is reminding all residents—particularly homeowners—of the Citizen Homeowner’s Policy Import Duty Waiver programme, which is available to Turks and Caicos Islander Status Holders and British Overseas Territory Citizens (BOTCs) who have suffered property damage as a result of natural or manmade disasters.
Each year, families across the TCI are impacted by hurricanes, floods, fires, and other devastating events. In response, the Government continues to provide financial relief through an Import Duty Exemption of up to $50,000 to support the repair and restoration of residential properties.
What You Need to Know:
- Application Deadline: Must be submitted within 180 days of the disaster.
 
- Exemption Period: Exemption must be utilized within 18 months of approval.
 
- Customs Fee: A 5% Customs Processing Fee (CPF) applies to all imported items under the waiver.
 
Who Is Eligible? To qualify, applicants must:
- Be natural persons (companies are not eligible).
 
- Hold Turks and Caicos Islander Status or be a BOTC.
 
- Legally own and occupy the damaged residence.
 
- Have sustained damage from a Category 2 or higher tropical cyclone, or an unintentional manmade disaster.
 
- Complete refurbishment within 18 months of exemption approval.
 
Application Requirements: Applicants must submit the following:
- Proof of Status (e.g. TCI Status Card, BOTC Certificate, Birth Certificate, Government ID)
 
- Proof of Homeownership (Land Register Extract)
 
- Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
 
- Sworn and notarized Affidavit
 
- Invoice of required materials
 
- Photographic evidence of property damage and surrounding area
 
- Planning Approval (if structural modifications are involved)
 
IMPORTANT: Homeowners are strongly encouraged to submit applications before the arrival of goods into the Turks and Caicos Islands to ensure timely processing.
Eligible Items Include (but are not limited to):
Construction Materials: Cement, concrete blocks, lumber, roofing, electrical and plumbing components, hurricane shutters, solar power systems, backup generators, water pumps, and more.
Furniture: Bed frames, mattresses, sofas, kitchen cabinets, dining tables, and nightstands.
Appliances: Energy-efficient stoves, refrigerators, tankless water heaters, air conditioners, and cistern pumps.
