Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, April 2, 2025 — At both the National Inter-High School and Primary Track and Field Championships, the media team consisted of members of the Project I.D.E.A. Media Club. The Project I.D.E.A. Media Club is a free programme launched in 2023 by the TCI Sports Commission to support early careers in media.

With a range of roles including live camera operators, photographers and runners, the students put the skills taught in the classes to use on the track. All crew members’ ages ranged from 13 to 18 years old, some who encompassed the camera crew at the Turks and Caicos Islands School Sports (TCISS) Basketball and Track and Field competitions last year.

Members represented schools: British West Indies Collegiate, Provo Middle School, Elite High School, Alpha Christian Academy and the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College.

The Project I.D.E.A. Media Club has proven that sports media has great potential in the TCI and the youth have a zeal to pursue a career in this field. Club member Theo Silva for 2 years running shares, “Project I.D.E.A. has taught me about communicating with different people on a professional level as well as sparking an interest in doing photography and videography as a career. It opened my eyes to details and perfecting my craft.”

The club has seen success after completing the school tour of the Ripple Effect (2024) short film across the Turks and Caicos Islands’ high schools earlier this year. Ripple Effect has now been entered for consideration to the New York Indie Shorts Awards, Trinidad+Tobago Film Festival, Caribbean Film Festival and the Bahamas Independent Film Festival.

Companies can support the club by donating equipment or sponsoring the project. Contact Project Lead Nandina Hislop nehislop@gov.tc for more information.
