Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands 4 April 2025 – The Ministry of Public Safety and Utilities wishes to alert the public about a series of fire incidents that occurred on April 2, 2025, affecting both the Islands of Providenciales and Grand Turk. These unfortunate events underscore the importance of fire safety awareness and the critical role of emergency response teams in protecting lives and property.

Fire in Providenciales – Widespread Damage in Five Cays

On the Island of Providenciales, a devastating fire broke out in the Five Cays area, causing significant destruction. The Fire and Rescue Service (Domestic) responded swiftly, working tirelessly to bring the flames under control and prevent further spread. Despite their best efforts, the fire inflicted severe damage, consuming several buildings and multiple vehicles. The Ministry acknowledges the profound impact of this tragedy on affected families and businesses and remains committed to working alongside the Government to explore avenues of support for those affected by such incidents.

Two Fires in Grand Turk – Rapid Response Prevents Further Loss

On the Island of Grand Turk, two (2) separate fire incidents were reported in quick succession. The first occurred at 6:04 PM on Cox Street, prompting an immediate response from emergency personnel. Just under an hour later, at approximately 7:00 PM, another fire was reported on Church Folly Road. Firefighters acted swiftly to contain both fires, preventing extensive damage to surrounding properties and ensuring public safety.

The Honorable Otis Chuck Morris, Minister of Public Safety and Utilities, has commended the bravery and efficiency of the fire service in tackling these incidents and reiterated the importance of fire prevention measures.

“These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by fires and the speed at which they can escalate. I strongly urge all residents to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to minimize fire risks. Proper storage of flammable materials, safe electrical practices, and responsible fire handling are critical in preventing such disasters. Most importantly, I encourage everyone to immediately contact the Fire and Rescue Service in the event of a fire—their expertise is essential in protecting lives and property,” stated Honorable Morris.

Reinforcing Fire Safety and Community Awareness

In light of these recent incidents, the Ministry of Public Safety and Utilities is reinforcing its commitment to fire prevention education and emergency preparedness. The Ministry will continue to collaborate with fire departments and community leaders to ensure that residents are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to prevent, detect, and respond to fires effectively.

Additionally, the Ministry encourages business owners and homeowners to review their fire safety plans, ensure that fire extinguishers are accessible, and participate in upcoming fire safety awareness programs. Being proactive can save lives and significantly reduce the likelihood of property damage.

The Ministry extends its deepest appreciation to the courageous firefighters who risk their lives daily to keep our communities safe. Their dedication and swift action played a crucial role in minimizing the impact of these fires, and their service does not go unnoticed.

As the Ministry continues to prioritize public safety, we urge all citizens to remain alert, responsible, and committed to fire prevention efforts.
