March 27, 2025 – The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Atlanta chapter is excited to announce an upcoming community outreach project benefiting the Ianthe Pratt Primary School in the beautiful Turks and Caicos Islands. Spearheaded by Oriel Selver, a native of the islands and chairperson for the community outreach committee at NAWIC Atlanta, this initiative aims to transform a vacant room at the school into a much-needed teacher’s lounge. Oriel Selver’s inspiration to lead the outreach project for Ianthe Pratt Primary School stems from her being an alumnus of the school and her deep-rooted connection to the islands and a heartfelt commitment to empowering the next generation. This personal background instills in her a strong desire to give back and improve educational opportunities for students.
Her connection to the islands motivates her to create initiatives that not only enhance learning environments but also inspire students and teachers alike. By leveraging her own experiences and understanding of the unique needs of the community, Oriel aims to build partnerships that enrich the educational landscape, fostering both academic growth and personal development. Through this outreach project, she hopes to instill a sense of pride and motivation in the students, showing them the potential they have to succeed, just as she did.
The kickoff event will take place on Thursday, April 3rd, at the Grace Bay Marketplace, featuring a meet and greet named “ATL TCI Connect.” Hosted by KIKA Design Studio, led by principal Kier Adams -Hegner, this event will provide an opportunity for community members to come together, share ideas, and learn more about the outreach project. The initiative is proudly sponsored by NW Hamilton Insurance, Windward Development, and The Wine Cellar. Friday April 4th is the day of the project at Ianthe Pratt. We will also be visiting classrooms for the upper-level students to share with them our roles in the construction industry and how everything works together.
“We are thrilled to embark on this journey to support the educators who play such a vital role in shaping the future of the children in our community,” said Oriel Selver. “This project is not just about beautifying a space; it’s about creating an environment where teachers feel valued and inspired.”
The NAWIC’s Atlanta chapter, is dedicated to empowering women in the construction industry, recognizes the importance of giving back to local communities, especially in places that hold personal significance to its members. By collaborating with local businesses and stakeholders, we aim to foster a sense of unity and enhance the educational experience for students and teachers alike.
Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare for this exciting initiative. We invite all local residents and supporters to join us at the ATL TCI Connect event to learn more about our mission and how you can contribute to making a difference in the lives of students and educators at Ianthe Pratt Primary School.
