Ministry of Tourism Announces the 2025 “Go Fly a Kite” Competition on Grand Turk

AND THE ENVIRONMENT

 

 

Cockburn Town, Turks and Caicos Islands – Friday, 21 March 2025: The Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with Experience Turks and Caicos and the Department of Culture, is pleased to announce the return of the “Go Fly a Kite” Annual Kite Flying Competition.

This cherished cultural tradition will take place on:

  • Saturday, April 19, 2025 – Grand Turk (10:00 a.m.)

Residents and visitors are invited to participate in this showcase of skill, creativity, and cultural pride, reinforcing the rich traditions of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

 Competition Categories

Competitors will vie for top honors in the following categories:

  • Smallest Kite
  • Largest Kite
  • Most Artistic Kite
  • Best Traditional Kite (Kopyjink)

All participants must register their kites before the competition begins. Separate submissions are required for multiple category entries.

 Competition Rules and Safety Guidelines

The Ministry of Tourism and its partners will enforce strict guidelines to ensure a safe and fair competition:

  • Kites must be flown responsibly within designated areas.
  • Repairs during the competition may be permitted with judges’ approval.
  • All participants must respect the judges’ final decisions.
  • Spectators are encouraged to support competitors while respecting competition boundaries.

The public is encouraged to come out and support the competitors as kites take to the skies, celebrating the spirit, culture, and creativity of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
