Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands 20th March 2025 – The Environmental Health Department recently hosted a follow-up community meeting on Middle Caicos on Monday, March 17th 2025 to address ongoing concerns about mosquito control and other environmental health issues. This meeting served as a continuation of discussions held last year, allowing residents to provide feedback on any improvements observed since the department’s initial strategy revision to align with community concerns.
Community members expressed positive feedback regarding mosquito control efforts making note of decreased mosquito activity and improved communication between the community and officers of the Environmental Health Department. Environmental Health officers also delivered informative presentations on two key public health nuisances, mosquitoes and roaches, highlighting their impact and best practices for control and prevention.
Beyond vector concerns, residents raised additional environmental health issues, including improper waste disposal at the designated site. Reports of individuals disposing of garbage in a careless manner underscored the need for a designated dump attendant. Littering in certain areas was also discussed, with suggestions including the organization of community clean-up initiatives in collaboration with other departments and local groups, as well as enhanced enforcement measures.
The Environmental Health Department remains committed to working alongside the community to address these issues and improve public health standards. Residents are encouraged to stay engaged and support ongoing efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment for all.
