Breaking barriers and asserting her presence in leadership are nothing new to Dr. Yvrose Pierre. As the first elected female mayor of Cap-Haïtien, she has made a significant impact in Haiti. In a predominantly male-dominated arena, Dr. Pierre has fought tirelessly to secure her place and drive meaningful change within her community.
Her journey in politics began in 2016, when she was a part of a three-member commission that was elected to lead the town hall. Here she got to see many of the struggles her community was facing. She had to tackle issues of insufficient resources, public safety, corruption, pollution and other deficiencies. She took on the challenge and would soon make history.
On July 17, 2020, she became the first elected woman mayor of Cap-Haïtien.
