FROM THE NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL

 

 

 

Turks and Caicos, January 28, 2025 – Her Excellency Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam and the Hon. Premier Charles Washington Misick, co-chaired a special meeting of the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) National Security Council (NSC) on Friday 24th January 2025 at the Office of the Governor in Providenciales.

In attendance, Her Excellency the Governor, the Hon. Premier, Her Excellency the Deputy Governor, the Hon. Deputy Premier, the Hon. Minister for Immigration and Border Services, the Hon. Attorney General (virtually), and the Acting Commissioner of Police.

Also in attendance, the National Security Advisor, the Permanent Secretary for National Security, the Head of the Governor’s Office and the NSS Threat Lead.

Members were briefed:

  • By Acting Commissioner Police Rodney Adams on the operational response for addressing the current crime situation. The CoP Ag. provided detail of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) elevated posture and the activation of a multi-agency operation with the RTCIPF, TCI Regiment and TCI Border Force: Operation Mightier.
  • On the additional compliment of specialist officers to be arriving on island, to provide critical investigative and operational uplifts, enhance police capacity and aerial support to bolster policing and border security operations.
  • On the progress of the cyber breach recovery, with confirmation on the restoration of TCIG revenue collection and management system, the recovery plan for the other affected systems and the resilience strategy for the TCIG network, with acknowledgment of the support provided by the Cayman Islands.
  • On the SpaceX incident response and ongoing US FAA investigation, providing confirmation of the arrival of a specialist team from the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) and SpaceX representatives, to develop a recovery plan of the debris acrossthe archipelago, including the maritime environment. Noted work to assess the environmental health and safety issues in the immediate and long term.
  • On safeguarding of vulnerable groups, specifically highlighting minors within the criminal justice system and the need to implement a review with social welfare and criminal justice stakeholders to ensure a robust safeguarding regime.
