Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands 19th January 2025 – The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Education, Department of Culture and Heritage, and National Museum, is seeking the public’s assistance in updating the question bank for the Annual Local Studies Competitions. This exciting event was a highlight of 2024 Education Week and celebrates the rich history, culture, and heritage of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The Local Studies Competitions provide students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of our nation’s past and present, fostering pride and awareness in our collective identity. The competition features two categories: the Inter-Primary School division and the Inter-High School division. Schools compete by answering challenging questions related to the Turks and Caicos Islands’ culture, history, geography, and notable figures.
Last year, Holy Family Academy emerged victorious in the Primary School category, demonstrating their impressive knowledge and teamwork. Meanwhile, H. J. Robinson High School clinched the title in the Inter-High School category, showcasing their academic prowess and commitment to excellence. Both schools have set a high standard for future participants.
To ensure the continued success and relevance of this competition, we invite educators, historians, culture bearers, and the general public to contribute by submitting questions for the updated question bank. Your input will help create a comprehensive and engaging pool of questions that challenge students while enriching their learning experience.
Submission Guidelines:
Questions must focus on the culture, history, geography, and notable figures of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Submissions should include the question, and the correct answer clearly indicated.
Contributors are encouraged to provide sources or references for accuracy.
Join us in making the 2025 Local Studies Competitions an unforgettable and enriching experience for our students. Let’s inspire the next generation to connect with and celebrate the essence of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
