UK Minister of State Stephen Doughty MP, on official visit to Turks and Caicos Islands

Turks and Caicos, November 4, 2024 – Her Excellency the Governor is pleased to announce that Stephen Doughty MP, Minister of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office with responsibility for the Overseas Territories, will be visiting the Turks and Caicos Islands during the week commencing 4 November for a three-day visit.  Minister Doughty will be visiting as part of a wider tour of the Caribbean Overseas Territories.

The Turks and Caicos Islands visit programme will focus on the security challenges faced by the Turks and Caicos Islands, including a visit to the Maritime Operations Centre to see first-hand how investment in our coastal surveillance systems is being used to aid the detection of illegal maritime activity; a tour with the RTCIPF tactical team to understand the crime landscape; and meetings with key law enforcement leads, including the Border Force and the TCI Regiment, to understand how strategic partnerships can be enhanced to address critical security issues.

The Minister will have bilateral meetings with the Premier Hon. Charles Washington Misick OBE JP and the Leader of the Opposition Hon. Edwin Astwood. Her Excellency the Governor and the Honourable Premier will host a reception to welcome the Minister and mark the occasion of the submission of the Constitutional Reforms to the Privy Council.

Stephen Doughty MP was appointed as a Minister of State on 8 July 2024.
