Department of Youth Affairs Attends Duke of Edinburgh (DOE) International Award Americas Regional Conference

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, 22nd October 2024 – The Department of Youth Affairs attended the Duke of Edinburgh International Award Americas Regional Conference in Kingston, Jamaica, to ensure the Turks and Caicos Islands’ (TCI) program aligns with the Award’s global objectives. National Youth Director Mrs. Jasmine Thomas and Commanding Officer (Designate) Mr. Lorenzo Chariandy represented the TCI.

This annual conference fosters collaboration among regional operators, sharing best practices to strengthen the Award. Discussions centered on strategic planning, youth engagement, and program development. Mrs. Thomas participated as a panelist, sharing insights on inclusive programming for youth with special needs.

Hon. Rachel Taylor, Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, noted, “Our participation in this conference demonstrates our commitment to empowering TCI’s youth through the Duke of Edinburgh International Award. By aligning with global standards, we ensure the program’s long-term sustainability and effectiveness in developing our young people’s skills and character.”

Following the conference, the Department of Youth hosted an Award Leaders Training to expand the DOE Program across the TCI, thus empowering local award leaders, expanding the program’s reach and ensuring equal opportunities for all youth.
