Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – The Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority (TCIAA) is nearing the final stages of its Internship Program. Launched during the summer of 2024, this program has offered invaluable hands-on experience to young professionals interested in aviation and airport management.

Led by Phylicia Hawkins, Training Manager of the HR Department, the program welcomed twenty interns. Eighteen were stationed at the Howard Hamilton International Airport and the Walter E. Cox Administration Building, one intern joined the team at JAGS McCartney International Airport on Grand Turk and another at the Norman B Saunders International Airport.

This initiative is another milestone for TCIAA, reflecting on the organization’s mission to nurture fresh talent and establish itself as a leading provider of career development within the Turks and Caicos aviation sector. “We have been incredibly impressed by the enthusiasm and talent our interns have demonstrated throughout the program,” remarked Phylicia Hawkins. “As we approach the conclusion of this inaugural program, it’s evident that our interns have gained valuable experience that will benefit their future careers.”

Ms. Hawkins also highlighted that many young people are unaware of the diverse and rich career opportunities available in the aviation and airports industry, which include engineering, finance, administration, project management, business, law, and more.

The interns received comprehensive orientation and safety training. Participants later gained exposure to areas including airport operations, customer service, and project management, providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in their future careers.

“TCIAA is committed to supporting the professional growth of young talent in the Turks and Caicos Islands,” added CEO Godfrey Smith. “The success of this program underscores our dedication to building a skilled workforce ready to drive innovation and excellence in airport management.”

Each intern was provided with starter kits containing essentials such as bags, stationery, and keepsakes to support them on their journey. They also received valuable guidance on building a strong resume and maintaining professional integrity from Melanie Smith, Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Talent Recruitment Group. August 16th marked the completion of this program for most of TCIAA’s interns who each walked away with gift baskets and certificates. Some, during the programme, expressed interest in extending their time with TCIAA and possibly starting careers within the TCIAA organization.
