Only Cuba’s Mijaín López has done this, Five time Olympic Champion!

August 14, 2024 – Born August 20, 1982, Lopez is a Cuban retired Greco-Roman wrestler. Widely considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, Mijain is a five-time Olympic gold medalist, five-time World Champion, and five-time Pan American Games champion.

López has represented Cuba at the 20042008, and 2012 Summer Olympics in AthensBeijing, and London, and was his country’s flag bearer during the opening ceremonies in 2008 and 2012. At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, López won his fifth gold medal, becoming the first Olympic athlete in any sport to win five gold medals in the same individual event.

Cuba was the most successful Caribbean country at the 2024 Olympics, securing nine medals; two gold, one silver and six bronze.
