Join the Bahamas Mangrove Alliance in Planting 1 Million Mangroves to Combat Climate Challenges and Preserve Biodiversity

On this World Mangrove Day (International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem), the Bahamas Mangrove Alliance (BMA) underscores the critical importance of preserving our mangrove ecosystems, which face severe degradation. Mangroves serve as natural barriers against pollution and climate challenges, and their destruction compromises our ability to combat these issues. As Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, the Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, noted in February 2024, “Mangroves are a cost-effective solution to tackling the climate crisis.” These vital ecosystems clean our waters, defend us against storm surges and support many species of fish, birds and plants.

In our commitment to safeguarding these invaluable resources, the BMA has set an ambitious goal to plant 1 million mangroves over the next year and a half, ensuring a resilient and sustainable future for our environment. If you or your organization want to join in these efforts, please email us at info@bahamasmangrovealliance.org. Additionally, if you would like to volunteer to collect propagules or plant mangroves in The Bahamas, contact us at the same email address.
