The Honourable Chief Justice attended the Regional Heads of Judiciaries Conference in Kingston, Jamaica

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – Tuesday, 25 June 2024: The Hon. Chief Justice of the Turks and Caicos Islands attended the Regional Heads of Judiciaries Conference which took place from 20 -22 June 2024 in Kingston, Jamaica.

The conference saw the regions’ Chief Justices, as well as other heads of judiciaries, come together to discuss matters of regional judicial importance.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Judicial Leadership in a Changing Environment”. In keeping with the theme, keynote speakers for the different sessions canvassed a myriad of topics, including: The Role of Visionary Leadership: Guiding Courts in a Changing Environment, The Modern Judiciary and Governance, The Global Standard Context, and AI – The Judiciary’s New Tool, among other topics.

Her Ladyship chaired the first plenary session on the second day, entitled, ‘Digital Applications in Transforming Governance’.

This year’s conference also sought to:

  • Expand training and capacity-building initiatives of Judiciaries to address new and emerging legal challenges
  • Enhance the use of technology in the administration of justice to improve efficiency and accessibility
  • Continue advocating for judicial reforms that promote transparency, accountability and public trust in the judicial system
  • Strengthen regional cooperation and partnerships to address transnational legal issues and improve the overall effectiveness of the Caribbean judiciary.

The Conference of Caribbean Chief Justices and Heads of Judiciaries is a vital institution in the Caribbean dedicated to upholding justice, fostering judicial excellence and promoting regional cooperation, and shaping the future of Caribbean administration of justice.
