#TurksandCaicos, July 3, 2024 – The TCI Human Rights Commission is pleased to report on the successful hosting of an open house at the Ocean Breeze Resort on June 19, 2024. This event was a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to engage with residents of the outer islands, providing them with essential access to human rights resources and education.
The primary objective of this open house was to ensure that residents of the outer islands are well-informed about their rights and have direct access to the Commission. Attendees had the opportunity to gain insights into the Commission’s mission, functions, and the fundamental rights guaranteed under the law. It also served as a platform for individuals to understand the procedures for filing complaints in cases where they perceive their rights to have been violated.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to reaching every corner of the Turks and Caicos Islands and encourage all residents to seize these opportunities to deepen their understanding of their rights and to access the vital resources and support available through the Commission. The Commission will be increasing the frequency of these visits to ensure that all community members have ample opportunity to engage with us.
“Our goal is to ensure that every resident of the Turks and Caicos Islands is not only aware of their rights but also empowered to defend them,” stated the director of the Commission. “By hosting events like this on different islands, we aim to extend our reach and ensure that no one is left without access to the support and guidance they deserve.”
Residents of the Turks and Caicos Islands can look forward to our next open house event, which the Commission plans to host on South Caicos in the upcoming months. These events are part of a broader initiative to enhance human rights awareness and provide comprehensive support to all residents.
