PROVIDENCIALES, TCI, JULY 4, 2024: Provo Water Company (PWC) issued a formal statement via video to update their customers and the public on the status of the recent water restrictions as well as the progress of their projects designed to provide a long-term solution to the current water distribution challenges.
Those challenges stem from a combination of significant increases in water demand on Providenciales along with supply chain issues which are impacting the timelines of projects aimed at improving distribution across the entire network.
Managing Director of PWC Robert Hall began the statement by reassuring customers that the dedicated staff of Provo Water are working diligently to complete their improvement projects. Speaking directly about the restrictions, which have primarily been on an as-needed basis, Hall said, “We hoped to end the water restrictions by the end of May of this year. However, as we are still in the midst of our improvement projects and still seeing extremely high water demand, that date has now been reevaluated, and the water restrictions will need to stay in effect until the end of July”.
Hall goes on to thank customers for their patience and understanding before detailing the projects currently underway to provide long-term relief. After some recent delays due to equipment and weather issues, the New City Water Main Transmission project is now on track to see completion by the end of July. According to the statement, this project will see larger diameter pipes installed along a new route, which will not only increase water flow but also provide alternative distribution options.
In addition to the New City Water Main Transmission project, PWC is also working on a project to replace older valves another project to improve the booster system. Commenting on the projects, Hall said, “These projects, including the construction of a new water production facility on the northwest side, are all part of a long-term strategy to ensure that the water distribution network stays ahead of the islands’ projected growth for years to come”.
Hall concluded the statement by applauding the efforts of the Provo Water staff and once again expressing gratitude for their customers’ understanding. He also re-emphasized the importance of practicing water conservation at all times, but especially now by saying. “While we continue our improvement projects, we ask that all our customers continue to practice water conservation. By conserving water and efficiently managing your water usage, you not only help to maintain water supplies for everyone, but you can also decrease your water bill”.
