Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands July 02, 2024 – The Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority (TCIAA) is pleased to provide an update on the construction of the new Control Tower and Fire Hall at Howard Hamilton International Airport. This project, which began with the execution of the contract on May 21st, 2020, and the commencement of work on May 18th, 2022, is making significant strides towards its anticipated completion date of November 30th, 2024.

Wellenica Williams, the Project Manager, highlighted priority areas of the project, stating, “The new tower’s CAB and the Fire Service Station are among the notable features pending. These upgrades are crucial for enhancing the operational capabilities and safety standards at Howard Hamilton International Airport.”

The importance of constructing the new tower is underscored by its role in replacing an aging facility that has served the airport for over 30 years. Straudia Gardiner, Senior Air Traffic Controller, emphasized, “We have outgrown the old tower, and the new combined services of the tower and fire hall will provide more modern equipment and capabilities. Once the new building is operational, the old tower will be demolished, marking a significant milestone in our airport’s development.”

According to Ms. Gardiner, everything is on schedule for November 2024 completion. “The integration of the tower and fire hall services represents a significant enhancement in our operational efficiency and safety. This project is essential for accommodating the growing demands of the airport and ensuring we meet international standards.”

The TCIAA remains committed to providing the highest service and safety for all its users. The new Control Tower and Fire Hall are critical parts of this mission, ensuring the airport reflects aviation excellence.
