#TrinidadandTobago, July 5, 2024 – An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 shook Trinidad and Tobago near midnight on Saturday, June 22nd 2024, this quake came four days after the country recorded a tremor of 3.9.
The Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the St Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) said that the quake was felt at 11:58 pm on Saturday. The quake was felt 97 km west-northwest of the capital Port of Spain and 119 km northwest of San Fernando.
According to Trinidad Weather Channel light to moderate shaking was reported across Trinidad and Tobago, lasting approximately 30 to 35 seconds. The earthquake was reportedly felt across St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada and its dependencies, northeastern Venezuela and as far south as northeastern Guyana and even French Guiana.
While there have been no reports of damage or injuries, localized power outages had been reported across northwestern Trinidad, including Trinidad’s North Coast, Glencoe, Santa Cruz and Goodwood.
