HE holds Introductory meeting with DPP

#TurksandCaicos, June 7, 2024 – Yesterday, HE the Governor held her first introductory meeting with the newly appointed Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr. Philip Bennetts KC, who took up post on Monday 3 June.  They discussed case management, strengthening of the Office of the DPP to build capacity and initiatives with criminal justice stakeholders to drive the efficiency and the effectiveness of the system.

The Governor appoints the DPP in accordance with Section 91 of the Constitution of the Turks and Caicos Islands.  Mr Bennetts KC joins us from the UK Crown Prosecution Service, with a strong track record as prosecution counsel in serious and complex criminal cases. Speaking at the time of the announcement of his appointment,  the Governor noted that she is “confident that he will be able to lead the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and ensure that it plays a pivotal role within the criminal justice system while building and maintaining public confidence in the independence and fairness of his Office”.
