$2.6 Billion Earmarked to Acquire 100 Additional Buses

#Kingston, Jamaica, March 21, 2024 – The Government has allocated $2.6 billion for the procurement of 100 additional buses prior to the commencement of the 2024/25 academic year, which are expected to improve the experience of the commuting public.

Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke, provided the details as he opened the 2024/25 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (March 12).

The Government is also allocating $916 million to facilitate the procurement of 50 garbage trucks.

Meanwhile, $10.4 billion has been made available to support the payment of cash grants to Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH) beneficiaries.

Dr. Clarke informed that specific levels of increases to the various benefit categories will be announced by Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr.

In addition, $672 million has been allocated to provide social assistance to the elderly through the Social Pension Programme.

“This is a Government that is leveraging economic stability to meet the needs of the people. This is a Government that listens, responds and acts. We are leveraging stability to improve people’s lives,” Dr. Clarke maintained.
