WARNING – Fraudulent Social Media Account

#TurksandCaicos, January 12, 2023 – It has come to our attention that there are fake Facebook accounts impersonating Her Excellency the Governor, Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam.  More seriously, we are aware that individuals have received messages via these Facebook accounts soliciting money.  Two identified Facebook accounts ‘Dileeni Deniel Selvaratnam’ and ‘Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, Governor of the Turks and Caicos Islands Account’ are wholly fabricated.  If you receive any type of communication from an account by these names you should ignore it, particularly any correspondence which requests financial payment.   The matter has been reported to the police and to Facebook.

The Governor’s Office reminds the public to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of official pages when using any social media platform, including Facebook. Individuals should be wary of ‘friend requests’ and ‘private messages’ from public figures, particularly if these include representations about official business, solicitations for money or any other personal information.

No official business is conducted through social media private messaging platforms.  All correspondence of Her Excellency the Governor and the Governor’s Office will be through official government email accounts.
