#TurksandCaicos, December 21, 2023 – For $322 this holiday season, one could fly from Ft Lauderdale, Florida and Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands with the Silver Airways Freedom fare and that is a bargain.  On December 8, slightly ahead of schedule, Silver Airways joined the list of commercial carriers who want to park its planes at the Providenciales International Airport, soon to be renamed the Howard Hamilton International Airport, and the excitement from Steven Rossum, CEO, was unmistakable.

“We are super excited to be here, this is our first new country since Covid– We are proud that you want to affiliate with us. This is a first-class island, a first-class nation, and we’re proud to be here,” he said during the welcome ceremony for the twice-weekly Fort Lauderdale flight.

Arlington Musgrove, Minister of Immigration and Border Services, highlighted the importance of accessibility to the Turks and Caicos.

“With the increase in activity we can attract more tourists, enhance economic growth, and create new employment opportunities for our people,” he said.

Silver Airways connects the Turks and Caicos Islands to prominent cities in Florida including Key West, Orlando, Tampa, Pensacola, Gainesville and the state capital, Tallahassee.  Silver Airways also serves Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina; Savannah, Georgia and Huntsville, Alabama.  The list of Caribbean countries is also impressive with seven destinations served within The Bahamas and 12 other regional countries in their offering including three ports in the Dominican Republic.

Wesley Clerveaux, Permanent Secretary of Tourism, acknowledged that increased flights were critical to the country’s residents as well.

“As an island nation, we recognize that increased accessibility is fundamental— it is our belief that a diverse range of travel options contributes to the growth and sustainability of our island nation,” he said, speaking on behalf of Josephine Connolly, Minister of Tourism.

Silver Airways is a regional carrier that offers budget fares across the Caribbean and Southern Florida, Clerveaux maintained this would be good for residents as well.

Poor weather could have put a damper on the first flight, but dignitaries, including Gordon Burton, House Speaker and Silver Airways staff made the pink and gray-themed event cheerful.

The final message from Rossum was one of cooperation, as he promised to be the type of company that worked well with the citizenry and regulators.

“We are gonna be good citizens in Turks and Caicos. We will work well with members of the community, the airport authority, and members of the travel community.”

Fares into the Turks and Caicos on Silver Airways start as low as $129.
