#TurksandCaicos, December 5, 2023 – As the Department of Tourism Regulations prepares to institute changes to the regulations for receiving a tourism license it is calling on all stakeholders to attend meetings so they have a say in what rules are kept or changed.

“By actively participating and expressing their opinions, stakeholders reduce the risk of introducing regulations that could negatively impact them.  Therefore, it is essential for stakeholders to be included in this process.” the Department said in a November 27 press release.

The statement comes as some groups of tourism stakeholders expressed their ire with the government for what they describe as a lack of consultation before new rules were introduced that could virtually shut down their businesses.

With the reintroduction of the Together Individuals Delivering Excellent Service (TIDES) Program, all tourism business owners will have to have a tourism license before they receive a business license.  Without these documents, entrepreneurs cannot legally operate in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The newly minted department is instituting new regulations that will guide the issuance of these business licenses.

Director of Tourism Regulations Mr. Avi Adams said “I am thrilled about the journey ahead with our stakeholders. These upcoming meetings are more than just discussions; they are a chance for us to chart a course together, sharing stories, ideas, and laughter.  Your presence as stakeholders is not just welcomed; it is the compass guiding us to craft regulations that not only stand the test of time but also create waves of positive change in our beloved tourism industry.”

Meetings concluded on December 1.
