#TurksandCaicos, December 29, 2023 – All residents of the Turks and Caicos must play their part in preventing children from descending into criminal activity, according to Samuel Been, Elected Member for Cheshire Hall and Richmond Hill.

“I want to say to my people, especially in the Kew Town Area– crime is [everyone’s] problem, not just the government, not just the police.  Believe it or not, most of the children involved in these crimes and being hurt by this crime are our children,” he said during a meeting of the House of Assembly on December 19.

He stressed that parents had a responsibility to protect young people and thus, the community.

“We as parents have a role to play, a serious role in knowing where our children are, what they are doing– we need to take a serious look at our children.  Go check them out!” he pleaded.

He also detailed upcoming works for ED7, on the list were :

  • $2 million for road fixes in the area of Suzie Turn
  • Upcoming/completed roadwork for Paris Corner, Turtle Creek Conch Bar East and West Crawfish Road, Sailfish Lane, and more.
  • Upgrades to playgrounds for the S.N.A.P Centre and Ashley’s Learning Centre in partnership with the Progressive National Institute.
  • The removal of derelict vehicles in partnership with CDMS and other residents.

Also mentioned by Been was a $150,000 park for the Kew Town area, which he maintained would enhance the important work of bringing the community together.
