#TurksandCaicos, December 29, 2023 – Several updates are coming for South Caicos this financial year, according to John Malcolm, Elected Member for the constituency.

“South Caicos is the next big thing,” he promised, speaking to the House of Assembly on December 19th.

He maintained that several previously promised projects were going to be ‘gushing out of the pipeline’ shortly including:

  • The $1 million resurfacing of the South Caicos ballpark;
  • The rebuilding of the regatta village; which he said would be going out to tender by the end of the year;
  • The 1.5 million redevelopment of Conch Ground Bay;
  • The fixing of open drains and;
  • The redevelopment of Cedar Park.

“These projects will bring about the transformation of South Caicos,” the elected member promised.

Malcolm also noted that following the completion of the projects, South Caicos would undergo an urban renewal process to remove shanties, outside toilets, and more.

The Member was also excited about the ongoing transformation of East Bay Resort, which is now under the ownership of the Marriott brand of hotels and will be transformed in the coming years. He explained that this would attract not only guests but the potential of international flights directly onto the island, with negotiations now ongoing.

Malcolm said following consultation with the planning department representatives he expected the projects to be started by March next year.
