#TurksandCaicos, December 5, 2023 – Police have confirmed another shooting in violence plagued Five Cays, this time a 24 year old was injured; his hospitalization has now also caused the temporary suspension of visitation at the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre.

Detectives of the Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force are investigating the shooting which reportedly occurred around 9 p.m. Saturday December 2nd.

“Detectives of the Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force are continuing investigations into the shooting and wounding of a male in Providenciales. Based on preliminary police reports, around 9 p.m. yesterday (December 02nd), the Police Control Room received multiple calls that gunshots were being heard in the Sand Bar Street, Five Cays area.”

Police got multiple calls that gunshots were being heard on Sand Bar Street where the man was found with gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Cheshire Hall Medical Center for treatment.  Particularly vexing for residents, that those nearly believed a child was in the line of fire.

Reports indicate that the home of the intended victim was sprayed with bullets while his partner and child were inside. The child and woman were not hurt.

Police are however investigating and need the public’s help.

“A team of officers were dispatched to the given location. A 24-year-old male received gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre for treatment. The public is advised to notify the closest police station, contact 911, the RTCIPF Serious Crime Unit at 232-8752 or 1-800-8477, and anonymously give any information on this shooting and other illegal activities.”

The Cheshire Hall Medical Center has been in restrictive mode since the shooting, a formal notice came today December 5.

“…other services such as the emergency department, surgical and routine outpatient clinics, x-rays and laboratory services will remain open.  This restriction is only to the in-patient unit of the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre.”

The suspension of visitation is admittedly due to “security concerns.”
