#TurksandCaicos, December 20, 2023 – “This Christmas, many of us will be looking forward to taking a break and spending time with friends, family, and loved ones.
“Many people will also take the time to help others. Kind-heartedness and solidarity are vital throughout the year – but it is especially important at this time of year.
“And of course, for many Christmas is not a holiday at all – for example, for the people in our Health Services and indeed all of our Law Enforcement Services. Your efforts are appreciated all through the year. But they are particularly appreciated at Christmas time.
“If we can, let’s also do our bit to spread some Christmas cheer – either by helping someone or a family or simply by being a good neighbor or friend.
“And I also want to ask people to think about those who have lost loved ones in this year and will be spending their first Christmas without their presence. Loneliness can be a terrible thing at Christmas. So, we should look out for each other.
“All of us across our Islands have too often focused on the differences between us, rather than on what ties us together.
“So, I hope the magic of Christmas casts its spell on people this year, helping families and friends remember what it is that unites them, not the things that divide them.
“I hope it reminds us that, despite the sound and fury of our national debate, the bonds of family, community, and country are still deep and lasting.
“And wherever you are – whether you are in the Turks & Caicos Islands or further afield, whether you are with friends and family or on your own – I hope you have the best possible time over this festive period.
So on behalf of my Astwood, Taylor, Robinson, and Seymour Family, and on behalf of my Party- the Peoples’ Democratic Movement;
“I wish all of you a very merry Christmas and a happy 2024.”
