#TurksandCaicos, December 5, 2023 – The Department of Rehabilitation and Community Services (DRCS) hosted a successful awareness session with media stakeholders on probation, parole, and offender rehabilitation. The event was held on Tuesday, 21st November 2023, and marked a significant milestone in advancing our commitment to reducing crime and reoffending in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The session provided an in-depth understanding of our strategies, initiatives, and challenges in offender rehabilitation. Through interactive discussions, compelling presentations, and collaborative dialogues, it highlighted our shared commitment to reshaping how we approach rehabilitation and community integration.

Mr. Jaron Harvey, the Director of Rehabilitation, said, “As a newly established Department, our commitment to transforming lives through rehabilitation and community integration is paramount. This media session served as a crucial platform to highlight our efforts in addressing offending behavior. It was an opportunity to showcase our dedication, share our initiatives, and foster a deeper understanding of the pivotal work we are undertaking. Our aim was to build bridges of understanding, reinforce our commitment to change and forge a collaborative path forward in creating a more rehabilitative and inclusive society.”

The media holds a pivotal position in molding public perceptions and shaping the narrative surrounding offender rehabilitation. Their portrayal of success stories, hurdles and the transformative journey of individuals plays a vital role in nurturing empathy, raising awareness, and building a supportive framework essential for effective rehabilitation endeavours. DRCS extends heartfelt gratitude to our media colleagues whose collective efforts contributed to this remarkable success.
