#Haiti, December 29, 2023 – Four people are dead, killed on Christmas day and their community  of Croix des Bouquets in Haiti is reeling and shocked by the heartless nature of the murders.  Two of them were girls, no more than ten years old.

While the world continues to debate over how a stabilization force from Kenya will enter the terribly troubled Republic; innocent people continue to die due to unchecked, unrelenting gang attacks.

In this case, the 400 Mawozo gang is blamed after a reported ambush just outside of Port au Prince.  Reports say the gang has increased its attacks  in communities east of the capital.  In fact, at least five people in the area were murdered including a mother and her child, the week before Christmas.

The two children included were identified in reports as two girls, and to add insult to injury of the slaying of four people, four family members were also kidnapped.

Responding to the death of the children, UNICEF expressed: “Deeply shocked and outraged,” were reportedly the words of Bruno Maes, country director for UNICEF, due to the gangs crime which he described as “a trail of unimaginable sorrow and despair.”

“We extend our deepest sympathy to the victims, families and communities affected by these barbaric attacks,” he said.

According to recent reports, February is the scheduled time for hundreds of Kenyan soldiers to be deployed to Haiti to dig the nation out of the social and economic deterioration it’s currently faced with.
