#TurksandCaicos, November 1, 2023 – The new Virgin Atlantic route from London’s Heathrow Airport to the Providenciales International Airport will open this weekend. Hannah Street, Caribbean Country Manager speaking to media during the Caribbean Investment Forum held in Nassau, Bahamas uncorked the good news on behalf of the company.

“We also have a new route in the Caribbean which is launching on the 4th of November to Turks and Caicos. Another route in the Northern Caribbean. That’s exciting.”

Josephine Connolly,  Minister of Tourism made the announcement during the State of The Industry Conference put on by the Caribbean Tourism Organization and held in the Turks and Caicos Islands earlier in October.

The announcement was made in the presence of tourism stakeholders and media houses including Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, TravelPulse, Insider Report.

The Virgin Atlantic partnership further opens the European market to the TCI and stakeholders are hoping it will not only diversify source markets but increase long stay visits.

The flights will be twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays according to the Virgin Atlantic website. The airline, which is literally spreading its wings throughout the Caribbean region, also lists another set of flights from Heathrow to begin 2nd April 2024 and last until the 24th October 2024.

The partnership was initially announced in 2022 with remarks from then Governor Nigel Dakin

“As of now my understanding is that this will be a direct flight which will go on to Jamaica; bringing ever more Caribbean connectivity as well as far better connectivity to the UK and thence Europe,” the past Dakin had explained.

Describing the TCI as the ‘best kept secret’ of UK vacationers, the airline features Grace Bay and other picturesque spots on its website, no doubt alluring to travellers.

The inaugural flight will land in the Turks and Caicos at 12:50 p.m. this coming Saturday, because of the busy Saturday roster the fanfare will be saved for November 8th when the second Virgin Atlantic Jet will be met with a water cannon salute and an enthusiastic tourism and travel industry team, with a cultural splash for those disembarking executives and guests.
