#PuertoRico, November 25, 2023 – Things are looking good for Puerto Rico as it is recently recognized as housing the busiest airport in the entire Caribbean, the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport; outperforming popular Caribbean countries such as The Dominican Republic and Jamaica.
Munoz Marin is dubbed the busiest by new data from renowned analytics firm ForwardKeys.
This year, 2023, has been one of great success for the airport, with passenger traffic through the roof, bumping up the airport to 80th place as the busiest, from 110th in 2019.
Data from discovery Puerto Rico, (DPR), the country’s tourism marketing organization, informs that the country’s visitor arrivals, tourism demand and lodging income all reported year-over-year increases in early 2023, Travel Pulse says.
In fact, Cecilia Rodríguez, DPR analyst, points out that passenger arrivals grew by 18.6 percent alongside the demand for short-term rentals and hotels at 14 percent above 2022 figures.
Not only that, DPR officials say airline reservations as well as short term rentals made by travelers in the second and third quarters of 2023, topped those of reservations pace seen during the same period for 2022, as mentioned by TravelPulse.
Coming in second to Munoz Marin is the Punta Cana International Airport with a 32 percent growth in arrivals since 2019, followed by the Las Americas International Airport, carrying a 58 percent increase in outbound traffic since before the pandemic.
Described as having “notable progress” by Forward Keys is the Sangsters International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica, coming in third.
Other airports in the region that are part of the top 10 busiest according to ForwardKeys are the Jose Marti in Havana; the Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, The Bahamas; the Queen Beatrix International Airport in Aruba; the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados; the Pointe a Pitre Le Raizet Airport in Guadeloupe; and a third Dominican airport, the Cibao International Airport.
