#Africa, November 25, 2023 – Africa could possibly be making moves soon, like the Caribbean, on its mission for reparations from Europe, nine years after CARICOM governments in 2013, stepped forward, leading the fight for reparations, a historic move.

This announcement came from Dr. Carla Barnett, CARICOM Secretary General as she gave her remarks on November 14th, for the opening ceremony of the Accra Reparations Conference.

She emphasized that reparatory justice for the Caribbean Community,  is a priority for the heads of government who she informed support working with Africa on this mission, is important to make it a success.

Considering this, Barnett revealed that the African Union is looking “to develop a common position on reparations and a road map for future collaboration with the African Diaspora on reparatory justice.”

She added that the Accra reparations conference is just in time given this development, as it will “facilitate dialogue on the reparations agenda.”

The conference is an important meeting between policy makers, reparations advocates, experts and civil society activists from Africa, CARICOM and the wider African Diaspora, to advance the reparatory justice Agenda.
