#TurksandCaicos, October 23, 2023 – The Universal Postal Union conducted training with the Turks and Caicos Islands postal staff in International Postal Systems (IPS),  Electronic Advance Data (EAD) and Customs Declaration Systems at the George Brown Post Office, Providenciales from 25th September to 3rd October 2023.

The International Postal System (IPS) is an operational module for processing inbound and outbound international mail, which allows customers to track express or registered mail and parcels to their destination.

Electronic Advance Data (EAD) is a global postal system requiring a customs declaration to be completed electronically on all items shipped through the postal system. It gives the customs officials in the destination country all the information they need to complete their inspections.

The training was facilitated by Mr. Carlos Carballada a Post Consultant and Specialist from the Universal Postal Union. Staff of the TCI Postal Service were also joined by senior officers of the Customs Department during the training.

Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ms. TeAnn Thomas brought remarks during the opening ceremony and presented certificates of completion at the conclusion of the training exercise.

Participants expressed their appreciation to the Universal Postal Union and Mr. Carballada for affording them the opportunity to attend such an important training session.

The successful completion of this training has now thrust the Turks and Caicos Islands Postal Service into the digital sphere as the Post Office is now fully digitalised.

Postmaster General Mrs. Elizabeth commented on the training noting, “This training session was essential to assist the Turks and Caicos Islands Postal Services to meet its international obligations and standards.”

She further noted: “The Post Office is now one step further in achieving part of its mission statement which is to create a 21st Century Post Office in the Turks and Caicos Islands’’.
