TCI must build with sustainability at forefront to survive climate change Robinson says

#TurksandCaicos, October 18, 2023 – The Turks and Caicos will have better resilience against climate change effects, especially as a vulnerable country, if the nation leads building efforts with sustainability. This was the idea put forth by Jamell Robinson, Minister of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development.

Robinson highlighted that it is important that the Ministry makes the necessary changes that are required to ensure the Turks and Caicos survive the changing times due to the ongoing and worsening climate crisis.

He said ” investing in sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy and green building techniques, will not only reduce our carbon footprint, but also contributes to the resilience and adaptability of our communities in the face of climate change.”

The Minister, as he continued to give his speech at the 2nd Annual Contractors Symposium on Tuesday October 17th, further emphasized the need for sustainable friendly moves such as these,  pointing to the worsening climate crisis.

“As we witness the increasing frequency of severity of natural disasters, it becomes evident  that our future depends on our ability to build with sustainability at the forefront,” he maintained. 

In continuation, he spoke to the importance of sustainable development being inclusive and equitable, creating opportunity for local businesses, [force] (-someone please check 28:07) the employment, “and empower the community that we serve by prioritizing local sourcing, training and capacity building.”

He added that the social fabric of the TCI can be enhanced and the sharing of the benefits of development by all,  ensured.
