#TurksandCaicos, September 15, 2023 – The week began with Washington Misick, Turks and Caicos Islands Premier landing in Gibraltar on official business, alongside his counterparts, for a preparatory meeting before the Joint Ministerial Council (JMC), to be held this November in London.

The update came via the Premier’s social media.  This JMC will be the second held this year and the official 2023 meeting, the meeting for the year 2022 was held in May after political upheaval in the UK forced it to be postponed.

Together, the heads of Government will decide how to approach the upcoming JMC, and what issues they will collectively bring to the UK.

The Premier has not indicated what big-ticket items of import to the Turks and Caicos residents he could be tabling during this meeting.  In May, several important items included reworking the Turks and Caicos Constitution, crime and violence and border security support from the UK.

Premier, Washington Misick left that JMC with support for the ongoing reworking of the constitution, and pledges for more assistance with border security, which have resulted in aerial support funded by the United Kingdom and more.

We are told along with preparation for the JMC that Misick will also attend a Ministerial Summit at No 6 Convent Place, hosted by Fabian Picard, Chief Minister of Gibraltar, and participate in a round table discussion hosted by the Deputy Chief Minister under the theme: “UK Overseas Territories and the Constitutional Challenges they Face.”
