#TurksandCaicos, September 15, 2023 – The Turks and Caicos Kidney Foundation, last week, got a major boost recently with the handover of a $17,400 check to the health-based charity.

The cash injection is courtesy of the TCI Boat Club following a successful rendition of their annual Poker Run, held in July. It’s aimed at helping patients who need to go overseas for kidney treatment.

“The TCI Boat Club is a local charity established in 2015. This was our 9th Annual three days of events,” Albert ‘Froggie’ Williams told Magnetic Media.

The event was on hiatus because of Covid-19 but as soon as they got back on track the Kidney Foundation benefited. The Foundation says it is dedicated to the awareness, prevention, and treatment of kidney disease.

“They have been our main charity since 2015. We chose them because kidney disease is so prevalent in TCI and they needed help,” Williams explained.

This year, over 60 hands, 30 boats, and a slew of sponsors made the Poker Run possible.

“We want to thank all of our sponsors for their generosity that afforded us to be able to present the Kidney Foundation with this check to assist with the more than 60 patients on dialysis.” Williams expressed

He also wants residents to know that the 2024 iteration which marks their 10th Poker Run Anniversary is not to be missed.

“Next year will be year 10. We are hoping to make it bigger and better with support and participation. Save the dates July 26 to 28 2024. More details coming,” he promised.

Since the beginning of the program, the Club has donated around $ 60,000 to support needy kidney patients. During that time the SNAP Centre and InterHealth Canada’s Kidney Testing Drive have also benefited.
