Police Report Illegal Sloop, INTERCEPTED on Friday

#TurksandCaicos, September 19, 2023 – A total of ONE HUNDRED and FIFTY-SIX (156) Haitian Nationals are currently at the Detention Centre following the interception of an illegal vessel on Friday 15th March, 2023, around 9:30 p.m.

According to police reports, the illegal vessel was spotted by the United States Border and Customs aircraft heading towards the TCI.

Officers of the Marine Branch intercepted the vessel eight miles southwest off West Caicos.

The illegal vessel was towed to the South Dock Port containing ONE HUNDRED and THIRTY-NINE (139) males and SEVENTEEN (17) females.

The illegal migrants were handed over to the Immigration Department for processing. Commissioner of Police (ag) Rodney Adams said: “Last night’s interception is indicative of global partnership working. I wish to extend my thanks and appreciation to our partners locally, regionally, and internationally who have contributed to the successful interception and the safe custody of all onboard that sloop.

“To the teams involved, Bravo Zulu.”

The public is being asked to contact 911, the closest police station, or call TCI Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 and give any information on any illegal activity anonymously.
