#TurksandCaicos, September 19, 2023 – Additional updates to e-government along with the successful rollout of the new police records system have been announced via the 2023 Speech from the Throne during the Opening of Parliament on September 14th

New items to be delivered this year are a digital Human Resources system; a road safety system and e-Cabinet.

No details were given on what this new road safety system would look like but residents have been clamoring for more safety measures including stop lights across the country.

As for e-Cabinet, currently, the Cabinet only communicates with the public via short bullet-style minute posts. These posts are often short on details and residents must wait until items are tabled in the House of Assembly to get details.

Now TCIG says it will be using digital solutions to facilitate cabinet meetings and improve information sharing and ease of communicating cabinet decisions to citizens.

Initiatives that were already successfully introduced include the police records system which is being hailed as a success with a 98 percent delivery rate.

E Jay Saunders, Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance shared the news with the media.

‘We are told the online system is churning out over 600 applications per week and after 10 weeks, 6,618 applications have been received. Of that number, 6,610 applications have been processed. Only eight applications are Under Review.

In addition, Saunders says the TCIG has already recouped the $28,000 it spent to make the application and that turnaround happened in just eight days.’

The initiatives are part of the government’s plan to digitize the Turks and Caicos Islands services facilitating ease of access.
