#TurksandCaicos, September 2, 2023 – A woman was fined $4,500.00 for hiring three prohibited female hair dressers in a matter from August 10, 2023.

The hair salon owner, a Haitian woman with local status identified in the court as AMITTE SAINT CLAIRE MATHURIN, 32 years old, faced charges for employing three hair stylists to plait and braid at her salon.

However, Mathurin did not have work permits for the pair.  She also did not have all of the money up front and the Hon. Chief Magistrate Mr. Jolyon Hatmin ordered her to pay $1,500.00 immediately for one of the prohibited females she employed or go to jail for 25 days.

The remaining $3,000.00 for the additional two prohibited females she employed must be paid by 31st October, 2023.

In his sentencing, the Chief Magistrate sends a strong message to employers that these are serious offences and if convicted you will be given very hefty fines or go to prison.

The three illegal employees were also charged, convicted and fined.
