Get Safe Online launches a security platform in the Caribbean, Bahamas included

September 19, 2023 – Get Safe Online, a leading global online safety resource, announced the launch and introduction of “Check a Website” service in Caribbean countries including The Bahamas, increasing online safety.

The service is available at http://www.getsafeonline.bs/checkawebsite/ and what it does is empower individuals business with the means to explore the online space safety as it verifies and legitimizes websites before one engages with them.

The platform is easy to use as reported by Loop.  By entering the website’s URL, users can receive instant information about its safety status and potential risks in a matter of  seconds.

It does this by using an algorithm to generate a trust score based on more than 40 data sources and thousands of reports of malicious websites from law enforcement agencies, regulators as well as consumer brands.

A representative from the Bahamas Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT), spoke on the new initiative, highlighting that they are cognizant that Bahamians are at risk online.

“The Government of The Bahamas realizes the importance of securing its digital citizens. Moreover, CIRT-BS recognizes that our citizens are online exposed to cyber risk whether for shopping, education or leisure.  Therefore, we must provide tools for our citizens to respond appropriately to cyber risk,” the representative said, later highlighting that these efforts are part in line with the country’s goal in improving online security.

“We are partnering with Get Safe Online and Check a Website campaign as a part of our mission to improve the country’s cybersecurity posture through proactive identification and management of cyber risks, cyber information sharing, and education and awareness,” they added.

Also, the launch is in line with Get Safe Online’s mission to promote online safety and security awareness in the Caribbean region.

Additionally, His Excellency Thomas Hartley, British High Commissioner to The Bahamas, also had a few words to say.

“This new service is a fantastic opportunity for Bahamian business and customers to keep themselves safe online. Everyone has heard of someone who has lost money online; using this online tool helps reduce that risk.  It’s free, and provided by the UK as a trusted tool.”

Tony Neate, CEO of Get Safe Online also gave his remarks on the development expressing excitement for the landing of the platform in the Bahamas, and speaking to why it’s importance.

“We are thrilled to introduce the ‘Check a Website’ service to The Bahamas.  As more individuals and businesses in the Caribbean region embrace the digital landscape, it’s crucial that they have the necessary tools to protect themselves from online threats.  Our service aims to provide users with the confidence to explore the internet safely, knowing that they are armed with the latest information about the websites they interact with,” he informed.

Thanks to funding from the International Development Programme of the UK, provided by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Get Safe Online is resuming campaign work in the Caribbean,
